WoodSpring Extended Stay Hotels Cleaning Program

Learn about the WoodSpring Suites Simply CLEAN Processes*

From its inception in 2003, the WoodSpring Suites brand has believed every guest deserves a room that is spotlessly cleaned and disinfected before check-ins occur. Our Simply CLEAN housekeeping program is designed to deliver on that belief by focusing on guest comfort and satisfaction.

The Simply CLEAN program focuses on guest satisfaction by requiring standardized hotel staff training.  This training utilizes descriptive and detailed housekeeping worksheets and incorporates a comprehensive cleaning, disinfecting, and repair processes, including our 99-point cleaning checklist to help ensure guest room cleanliness.

Simply CLEAN Processes

The Simply CLEAN program is based on the following processes:

  • Room Prep: All guest rooms are required to undergo a completed room prep following each guest checkout and prior to cleaning.  This includes removing trash, all bedding, towels, and the shower curtain.  This helps minimize cross-contamination of dirt and germs during the check-out cleaning process. This step also includes the removal and cleaning of each room’s heating/air conditioning PTAC unit’s filters to help eliminate odors and promote clean air circulation. Finally, the room is treated with chemicals that disinfect and sanitize when left on surfaces for the proper amount of time prior to the cleaning process.

  • Check-out Cleaning: Each check-out room is thoroughly cleaned and all disinfectant and sanitizing chemical residue is washed away.  This includes the detailed cleaning of bedding, furniture, flooring, all kitchen and bath areas before new guest check-ins occur.

  • Stay-over Cleaning: Each occupied room receives cleaning services every fourteen days, allowing our guests privacy and the ability to live like you’re at home while staying with us. This cleaning includes the sanitizing and disinfecting of the bathroom, kitchen, and other contact surfaces throughout the room.

  • Public Space Cleaning: All public spaces including the lobby, entry/exit doors, guest laundry, elevator, vending, stairwells, and fitness centers (where applicable) are cleaned and sanitized several times each day.

  • Room Inspections: After maintenance work orders are completed and rooms are thoroughly cleaned, each room is inspected to ensure they are guest-ready.

  • Monthly Inspections: Every thirty days the hotel’s general manager ensures all third-party inspections and certificates are up to date.

Staff Certification and Training

Simply CLEAN training is required for all WoodSpring Suites hotel staff members to ensure each guest room is prepped, sanitized, disinfected, and properly cleaned before check-in and during each guest’s stay. WoodSpring Suites requires that all cleaning staff be certified to independently complete room prep, check-out, stay-over, and public space tasks. During training, staff work is inspected daily by the hotel’s general manager, and constructive feedback and coaching is given. Staff members are recertified annually.

WoodSpring Suites staff are also thoroughly trained on the safe and effective use of cleaning chemicals to ensure guest well-being, comfort, and satisfaction.

Routine Cleaning Audits

To ensure each hotel’s staff adheres to the housekeeping policy, every WoodSpring Suites general manager is required to perform an audit on the hotel with his or her supervisor. The inspection covers a wide range of criteria, including physically inspecting guest rooms and all public spaces for cleanliness and general condition compliance. As with staff certifications, the goal of each audit is to help ensure guests encounter a clean and sanitary environment in all areas of the hotel, from the parking lot to their suite.

Our Cleanliness Protocols Are Enhanced with Choice Hotels' Commitment to Clean

Every WoodSpring Suites hotel also participates in Choice Hotels’ Commitment to Clean program, which builds on the existing Simply CLEAN standards with guidance developed in response to the pandemic, including recommendations related to deep cleaning, disinfecting, hygiene, and social distancing. Over the next few weeks, guests may experience a growing variety of new and improved cleanliness protocols, products and communications at Choice-branded hotels.

  • Heightened cleaning protocols: We’re providing guidance for heightened cleaning protocols for high-traffic areas such as the front desk, fitness centers and pools, as well as other high-touch surfaces throughout the hotel, using hospital-grade disinfectant approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to combat the spread of COVID-19.

  • Face coverings: Following the CDC’s latest updates to public health guidance for fully vaccinated individuals, Choice Hotels is no longer requiring the use of face coverings in hotel common areas. However, face covering requirements may vary by location as hotels continue to comply with state and local requirements, health ordinances and other regulations.

  • Best-in-class cleanliness training: Every Choice-branded hotel will designate a “Commitment to Clean Captain,” each of whom will complete applicable best-in-class cleanliness training and will be responsible for incorporating the new protocols into their hotel's operations.
* Simply CLEAN is a brand standard for all WoodSpring Suites hotels but implementation and effectiveness of the program is dependent on the participation and performance of each individual hotel. Specific questions about cleaning should be directed to the hotel’s management.
