Best known as the closest city to Fort Bragg, one of the largest military bases in the world, Fayetteville is home to the historic Liberty Point building. It was there in 1775 that the Liberty Point Resolves were written--a document protesting the actions of Great Britain after the battles of Lexington and Concord.
The county seat of Cumberland county, Fayetteville is home to approximately 200,564 residents, many of whom work at Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg itself houses 57,000 military personnel and additional 23,000 family members.
Fayetteville is close to the communities of Garner, Apex, Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Rashford, Johnsonville, Vander, Eastover, Wade, and Stedman. Raleigh, the state capital, is just over an hour to the north by car.
Fort Bragg is an important contributor to Fayetteville's economy, with over 11000 civilians serving the military base in support capacities. All told, Fort Bragg injects approximately $4.5 billion a year into the city and the surrounding region. Retail, lodging, and the entertainment industry all benefit from proximity to the base, and top defense contractors such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin call the city home.
Fayetteville’s subtropical climate creates hot, humid summers with frequent thunderstorms. Winters are mild, with limited snow most years. July sees the hottest weather, with highs in the 90s, while January sees average lows in the 30s.
